ADMISSIONS POLICY

SIXTH FORM AT BISHOP THOMAS GRANT IN SEPTEMBER 2012

Students aged 16 in the academic year 2011-2012 are invited to apply for places to study at Bishop Thomas Grant School’s Sixth Form from October 2011.

The anticipated Year 12 intake is 100 Students for September 2012.  In addition to this overall limit, admission to particular courses will depend on the school being able to run the courses and there being vacancies on them.  Individual courses have a maximum number of places available.

If courses are oversubscribed, priority for places will be given in the following order:

1.      Existing Bishop Thomas Grant School Year 11 students who fulfill all the other criteria.

2.      Students who meet the entry requirements.

3.      If courses remain oversubscribed, priority will be given to those students who obtain:

·            The highest scores at GCSE for the course.

·            The highest average points score.

In the event of a tie break, distance between the home and the school will be the deciding factor (distance will be measured in a straight line from the student’s home to the school.  The distance is measured by the London Borough of Lambeth on behalf of Bishop Thomas Grant School using a standard system).

In addition to the above oversubscription order, places are offered subject to the following criteria being met:

·           Understanding of, and willingness to commit to, the aims, values and ethos of the school as outlined in the mission statement and the prospectus.

·           Satisfactory personal and academic reference by a senior member of staff from the previous school or college.  The reference will need to demonstrate that the student

·            Will have the appropriate motivation to follow the course provided

·            Is likely to behave in the mature and responsible way expected of Sixth Form students

·            Is likely to show a commitment to hard work.

The Headmaster will recommend to the Governing Body, on the basis of the information available, whether the admissions criteria have been satisfied, and therefore a place should be offered.  The Headmaster, on behalf of the Governors, reserves the right to refuse admission.
