BTEC Nomination for Bishop Thomas Grant School
Exciting news came from exam board Edexcel in the shape of a top nomination for our school. Bishop Thomas Grant School has been nominated for the Award of BTEC School or Multi-Academy Trust of the Year, an excellent achievement in the same year as sports student Megan Murphy is nominated for BTEC Sports Student of the Year.
The nomination is a reflection of the great results achieved by BTEC students and staff, both academically and in the local community. Whilst you may be aware of the top BTEC results achieved by the school (98% of grades were Distinction/Distinction*) you may not be so aware of the fantastic community based work that students engage in as part of these courses. For example, this year’s Year 12 Health and Social Care group under the guidance of Ms Henry organised an Easter Fun day with arts and crafts activities for the St Andrews Primary School reception class. This practical activity is one of the units of work that students are required to undertake as part of their BTEC Diploma course. This course, pitched at level 3 and therefore of A level standard, gives successful students the perfect stepping stone to many related degree courses at university.
