Karol Kubik Swoops to Victory with Flying Scholarship

A level student Karol Kubik has fought off competition from all over the UK to win an RAF Association flying scholarship.

To win his scholarship, Karol, who is currently taking A levels in Maths, Physics and History at Bishop Thomas Grant School in Streatham, took part  in two days of assessment at RAF Cranwell in Grantham. Starting at 6.55 on the first day he completed the RAF Pilot Aptitude Test, then underwent a 30 minute interview in front of a panel of RAF training experts.

The six finalists for the scholarship were drawn from The Air Cadet Organisation, Girls Venture Corps Air Cadets and Explorer Air Scouts. Karol’s success in gaining the scholarship means he will now receive 12 hours of paid flying lessons at South Warwickshire Flying Club in July, which will surely be of great use in helping him to achieve his ultimate aim of becoming a pilot.

Reflecting on his success, Karol commented: "Winning this scholarship is definitely the pinnacle of my career within the RAF Air Cadets, which I have been doing for the past five years. There were 250 applications received from all over the country for just six places, so I'm very proud of this achievement. I will also have my first flying lesson before I have a driving lesson, which is something that not every 18 year old can say".

Interestingly, Karol also has great talents as a singer and actor, and you may remember him in the lead role in the school’s production of “Little Shop of Horrors” last year.

Everyone at BTG wishes him the very best in all of his future endeavours!
