Sixth Form Superstar

A spotlight on some of our Sixth Form Superstars

Now in its ninth year the sixth form at Bishop Thomas Grant School has produced a huge array of very successful students. Over the last four years in particular, students have found their way to university at both Cambridge and Oxford. Every year students now also succeed with their applications to medical school and win scholarships to prestigious American universities. Students regularly proceed to Russell Group universities with top grades at A level and BTEC.

In the next newsletter we will introduce you to some more of our rising stars who have already attracted attention such as our Year 12 student Megan Murphy who will hear in July if her nomination as UK national BTEC Sports Science student of the year has been successful. Megan has done extremely well even to have her nomination accepted and we keep our fingers crossed for her.

Recently Year 13 student Nicholas Sankey was invited to Buckingham Palace to receive his Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award. He has also been offered a scholarship and apprenticeship with world-ranking City Accountancy firm KPMG. Nicholas showed us the hoops he had to jump through to win this award, which included an online application (along with 20000 others!) and a digital submission on making an impact, career motivation, demonstrating innovation and curiosity (along with 10000 others!) He then went to an assessment centre at Canary Wharf to have his interview and write a report on a possible event he might need to organise – all followed three days later by a logical reasoning test. After six months of applications the rewards will be great as Nicholas will be able to obtain his professional qualifications as an accountant and proceed to the career of his dreams without the concerns other students might have about the payment of university fees and then repayment of loans.

Well done to both Megan and Nicholas!

Don’t forget that students in all year groups can now use the careers email, to book appointments with our careers advisor every Friday.
