Sr. Ann Hoskinson R.I.P.
Members of the Bishop Thomas Grant School family will be sad to hear of the recent death of Sr. Ann Hoskinson, who was a popular Chaplain at the school after her retirement as Headteacher of St. Michael’s, Bermondsey.
At St Michael’s Sr Ann was a formidable figure for thousands of pupils at the school on John Felton Road for a quarter of a century. Aged 82, Sister Ann is said to have ‘gone peacefully’ in her sleep at the Elmthorpe Convent in Oxfordshire on Saturday 29 December 2018.
Sr Ann who was known to some as the ‘flying nun’, after serving in the RAF as a young woman, was also a keen and expert sportswoman, rowing for Cambridge University while studying there in the 1950s, and playing at Wimbledon. She qualified as a teacher from Cambridge in 1957.
Vice-Chair of Governors at Bishop Thomas Grant School Ms Kathleen Robinson said of Sr Ann: “Sr Ann was also a committed governor of the school and as part of her work as Chaplain regularly took groups of senior students to her home in Alverstock for leadership training. WE ARE ALL GRATEFUL TO HER FOR THE MAJOR CONTRIBUTIONS SHE MADE TO THE RELIGIOUS LIFE OF THE SCHOOL.
