Record Breaking Numbers!
The Sixth Form opened its doors to the new intake of Year 12 students on Friday 5th September 2014. Even though the team were expecting a large amount of students, the school was overwhelmed to officially enrol 176 students on to A Level and BTEC courses. This is the largest cohort of Year 12 students that the school has ever welcomed, a sign of the Sixth Forms growing success! The students were introduced to their new pastoral and academic team including Mr Stapelberg, Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Levenson, Head of Year 12 and Miss Wells, Head of Year 13. During the induction day students got to grips with expectations of sixth form life, were provided with an an outline of programmes and enrichment activities available and also took part in two work shops provided by Mr McDonald and Mr Brizicki. As well as this, the students had the opportunity to explore the sixth form block, including their first very own common room. On Monday 8th September the students all began their new courses - we wish them the best of luck for the upcoming challenges they face.
Year 12 visit Swattenden Activity Centre.
On Tuesday 16th September the Year 12 students had an early start, meeting at school at 7.30am. Along with members of the teaching staff, the students travelled to Swattenden activity centre in Kent to take part in various team building activities. On arrival, the activity guides organised the students into their form groups and soon they were working together to complete various challenges. Throughout the day students had to overcome their fear of heights by scaling to the top of a platform and making a leap of faith, putting their trust in their team mates who were responsible for their harnesses and ropes! Some managed to zip line through the country side seeing some wonderful views…if they managed to open their eyes! Those with concerns over getting wet soon had to deal with them, as they were given the task of building a raft and sailing it across a lake. The more adventurous even managed to work together to build a moving bridge over the same lake! Students also had the chance to go rock climbing, take part in archery and complete and assault course. By the end of the day most students were in need of a well-deserved nap on the journey home
