Bishop Thomas Grant School Library Mission Statement
The Library aims to provide a modern multimedia resource centre and a welcoming, inclusive learning environment which is central to the school, actively supporting teaching and learning, recognising and valuing each individual as a lifelong learner, supporting the development of independent learning skills and fostering a love and enjoyment of reading in all its forms. We are committed to equality of access and aim to offer opportunities for all students to take responsibility for their own learning and recreation, effectively and with enjoyment.
About Bishop Thomas Grant School Library
At Bishop Thomas Grant School Library we encourage the love of reading and a positive attitude towards books, whether for pleasure or for study. Our stock of books caters for many different tastes and interests and we aim to help students become life-long learners by supporting independent learning.
The Library caters for all academic subjects taught in school and many of the leisure interests our students have. All levels of ability and different types of learners are supported.
As well as being open every day we also actively promote reading by organising events such as author visits, competitions, a book club and book fairs; we celebrate World Book Day annually and follow the Lambeth Phoenix Book Award. For information on the Lambeth Phoenix Book Award click here.
The Library Assistant programme is designed for Year 7 up to Year 10 pupils to gain some life experience. During the autumn term the Librarian recruits 2-3 pupils to cover daily school breaks and lunch hours.
