Key Stage 3 Computing & ICT

From September 2012, students at KS3 ICT follow a new scheme of work, which is mapped against newly-approved NAACE framework.  This new scheme of work incorporates Computing into ICT curriculum, allowing pupils to develop an understanding in the design, and implementation of computer systems, and understanding the principles underlying these designs.

 

Year 7

First term

Email Features and functions

Pupils will be given their new email account information and taught how to use school email system and they will learn how to use key terms within an email system.

E-Safety

Pupils will learn how to stay safe online, and how to respond and deal with the negative sides of being online.

Computers the basics

Pupils will learn about the internal components of a computer and how each component makes up a computer.

 

Second Term

Using Information, advanced searching

Pupils will learn how to carry out advanced searches on the internet and on a Database so as to narrow down search results.

Logic and Sequencing

Pupils will learn how to solve a problem using an algorithm and test their algorithm using specialised software.

 

Third Term

Scratch Project

Pupils will learn how to create a Pac Man game using Scratch software. 

They will plan, design, create, amend after feedback and evaluate their game.

 

Year 7 Express

First Term

www/scripting

Pupils will learn about the world wide web and how it made up, and then learn how to create their own web site using scripting language (HTML).

File permission and Security

Pupils will learn the importance of file security and set up file permissions on a given profile.

Scratch Raspberry pi project

Pupils will learn what a raspberry pi is and creating a game in scratch and setup the Pi as a Kiosk.

 

Third Term

Game Making Project

Pupils will create a three level space man game, using software called Game Maker which will introduce them to coding.

They will plan, design, create, amend after feedback and evaluate their game.

 

Year 8

First Term

E-Safety

Pupils will specifically learn about social networking sites the pros and cons and how to set up a profile safely.

History of Computers

Pupils will learn about the development of computers from Colossus to our modern day smart phones.

 

Second Term

Pupils will learn what a database is how to create a table, form and report in a database, and how to set up a mail merge from their database to word document.

Year 8 Express

Entry Level Computing

First Term

Trends in ICT

Pupils will research a computing related technology (such as mobile phones, social networks).  They will then communicate these findings through a presentation/report.

Programming in Scratch

Pupils plan, write, test and evaluate a simple program created in Scratch.

 

Second Term

Hardware

Pupils will learn about the internal and external components of a computer and what their functions are.

External Exam in Summer

Software

Pupils will learn about the functions of an operating system, types of application software, types of system software and types of utility software in different contexts.

Logic

Pupils will learn about binary numbers, logic gates and sequencing of instructions.

Third Term

Programming in Python

Pupils will be introduce to this text based programming language and create a short programme to a specified problem.
