Key Stage 4 Economics
GCSE Economics is an extremely well-regarded academic qualification assessed purely by exams. It is a tough and challenging subject inviting students to engage in abstract, theoretical thought and then to apply it to the real world by reading articles, watching the news, and interpreting and analysing data. In Year 9, students will focus on microeconomics and learn about the basic economic problem, supply and demand, and the nature of competitive markets. In Year 10, they will look at the big picture of macroeconomics and learn about government objectives, the national budget, and monetary, fiscal and supply-side policies. In Year 11, we will extend our analysis to other countries and investigate international trade, globablisation, exchange rates, the European Union, growth and development. The OCR specification is assessed by three external exams which all take place at the end of Year 11.
