Health and Social Care
Health and Social Care is one of the fastest growing departments in the school at both KS4 and KS5. We offer the BTEC qualification at both Level 2 and Level 3, both accredited by Edexcel. Health and Social Care is the study of skills, values and knowledge required to work in the health and social care sectors. The course combines elements of sociology, biology, nutrition, law and ethics and is about understanding what is required of an individual working in the sector by focusing on the needs of service users.
The health and social care sector employs over 4 million people in the UK and covers a vast array of careers such nursing, midwifery, social services, physiotherapy, mental health services etc. Through practical and theory work students develop skills in a number of areas, such as: interpersonal, presentation, team working and time management. These skills prepare students for further education or direct entry into employment or training.
