Trips and Events in Modern Foreign Languages
Weekly events in MFL include: 'Eurolab' Languages club (Monday lunchtimes in CB5/6). Pupils have the chance to work on their language skills using interactive online resources, as well as to read foreign-language magazines. Help with homework is also available from one of our Foreign Language Assistants (FLA’s).
Annual events in MFL include: 'European Day of Languages' takes place every September and is a celebration of all things European. Pupils might sing a song in Latvian or Italian during their German lesson, and the canteen puts on a 'Tastes of Europe' event. There is a European-themed quiz in the Main Hall during lunchtime, with prizes and edible goodies for all.
The 'Year 7 Song' competition takes place in July and pupils showcase to their peers a song that they have written in the Target Language. The creativity shown and the quality of the songs is always astounding, especially when one considers that pupils have only been learning their language for a little over 10 months.
Foreign-language trips: This year we will have a Classics visit to Rome and Pompeii, as well as a cross-curricular (French and History), trip to Normandy.
