Year 11 My GCSE Science Subscription
We all know that time spent with an expert discussing learning and subject material is crucial to success, but what happens when GCSE students go home? To address this lost opportunity, the department has purchased an online subscription to www.my-gcsescience.com for Year 11 students, a tried and tested resource that supports independent learning and revision from home using a laptop, tablet or mobile telephone. Now, for the first time, students have a set of succinct video tutorials created by a former Head of Science at a London school with working experience of the AQA specification, assessment requirements and, crucially, how students learn best. Students have access to over two hundred video tutorials arranged in order of the specification each accompanied by a set of notes, an example exam question with answers and exam tips and an interactive tracker for students to take responsibility for charting their own learning. As well as being a resource for staff to use in class, the Science department has instructed all students to use the resource, which is individually priced at £49.95 per subscription, in the following ways:
- Students can use it to study ahead of the teacher so that classroom time focuses on deeper learning.
- Students can use it to consolidate learning that has taken place in class when they return home.
- Students can use it to periodically review previous learning before an assessment or at intervals throughout the term.
Each student in Year 11 has been given instructions on how to sign up for the resource as well as a unique PIN number for them to access the valuable subscription.
If you are a Year 11 parent, please support your child in using My GCSE Science and do not hesitate to contact Head of Science Mr Todd if you would like more information on making the most of this resource.
In addition to the formalised 'Drop in' support sessions and the 'open door' ethos of the department, the following books and resources may be useful for Science students at Bishop Thomas Grant School (other publishers are available and if you are uncertain as to the suitability of a revision guide, we have a selection of books to show your child).
