Course content

What is the course?

Both courses in Business are a nationally recognised qualification equivalent to one A-level.

This is designed to be taken with 2 other subject choices which may be other Single award vocational offers or A levels.

This makes the combined package worth the equivalent of three A-levels.

The Extended certificate in Business provides learners with the opportunity to develop a comprehensive range of business skills and personal attributes that will allow them to gain employment in business or to go on to higher study at university.

The compulsory core modules develop in learners an understanding of the business environment, the management of resources, marketing and communication – all fundamental to the success of business organisations. The optional units the develop specialist skills in a particular area of Business. Learners will produce individual reports, although much of the work will be done in groups.

What skills will I develop? As well as studying specific business theories and practices, learners will develop a comprehensive range of generic business skills including: · Written and verbal English · Communication · Numeracy · Presentation · Leadership · Organisation · Time management Learners will develop these skills by working on a range of different units, each focusing on a different aspect of business. They will have to manage their time effectively to ensure work is completed to deadlines.

Assessment

Both courses are assessed via a combination of: internally assessed coursework (IC) Externally assessed coursework (EC) – A task set and marked by the exam board and completed under supervised conditions. Learners will be given a context before a supervised assessment period in order to carry out research. Written exam set by the exam board (E) The units in bold below denotes that are weighted heavier than the other units.

Option 1: Edexcel National Extended Certificate in Business Learners must complete the following THREE compulsory units: 1. Exploring Business (IC) 2. Develop a marketing campaign (EC) 3. Personal and business finance – (E) They will then complete the following ONE option units: 4. Recruitment and selection (IC) 33% Exam 66% Internal and external coursework
