What will I be studying?

A level 3 qualification in Children’s, Play, Learning and Development allows students to develop the skills and personal qualities needed to work within the industry or to progress onto further education. Students will study a variety of different topics all linking to support children in their early stages of learning. It will include insight into settings and the variety of child related careers but also the knowledge and theory behind how children learn. In addition, they will learn practical skills of how to work with children.

Assessment:

This course is assessed via a combination of: o internally assessed coursework o Written exam set by the exam board Learners must complete the following units UNIT 1 Children’s Development UNIT 2 Development of Children’s Communication, literacy and numeracy UNIT 3 Play and learning UNIT 5 Keeping Children Safe How I will be assessed: Unit 1 is an exam (1 hour 45 minutes) Unit 2 task externally marked Units 3 and 5 – coursework.

Coursework will be assessed through written assignments, presentations, case studies, observations and practical work. Students must also complete 50 hours in a placement, this can be in a school or nursery working with children aged 0-7 years.
