Bishop Thomas Grant School

The Friends of Bishop Thomas Grant School

Welcome! The Friends committee is dedicated to running events to raise much needed funds to help in  providing resources and experiences for the children and community here at Bishop Thomas Grant. We have recently relaunched the committee and hope that through our events we can provide opportunities for families to meet, socialise and most importantly have fun.

How does it all work?

The Friends is run by a committee. We aim to meet at least once a term and, with the exception of the AGM, our meetings are very informal, either held in the school meeting room or the pub! As a parent at Bishop Thomas Grant you are automatically a member of the school’s Friends Association. Anyone with a connection to the school is also very welcome e.g. Grandparents or Childminders. We are always eager to encourage new parents to attend meetings and are open to new ideas. You may even decide to join the committee! But if that is not for you, you can still get involved by helping at events.

The Friends cannot run without your help and support. If you have an active interest in contributing to your child’s school, why not give it a try? Of course, the children at school reap the rewards of all the success that the Friends achieve but, equally, it’s a great way for school families and the community as a whole to get together on a social level – we do aim to have fun in amongst the work!

Sounds great! How can I get involved?

Volunteering: Parent volunteers are the spine of the Friends and we will not get anywhere near the levels of success we hope for, unless we have help. You may only have an hour or two; that’s fine.  You may want to get more involved or have a skill that you could offer.  Whichever, please do get in touch. Please email: friends@btg-secondary.lambeth.sch.uk

Register for easy fundraising: We all purchase goods online at some point during the year. By registering for easy fundraising a percentage of what you spend at certain retailers will go to our charity. Register on https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/bishopthomasgrantschool/ to make your purchases count! It is such an easy way to raise money and very simple to set up.  Then when you shop online with Tesco, Amazon, Ebay and many more retailers, you have raised some pennies for our school!

Matched Funding: It may be that the company you work for kindly offers matched funding for any fundraising events you may be involved in at the school.  It is impossible to say which companies will offer this matched funding scheme to their employees but it is worth checking it out, especially if you work for a bank, building society, insurance company, car manufacturer or phone company. Please contact us: friends@btg-secondary.lambeth.sch.uk to discuss further.
